WB FLEXOGRAPHIC INKS FOR FILMS AND FOILS
Rowat Ink film series products have combined the color strength and ease of use of today’s paper inks with excellent adhesion and resistance properties. Experience has proven that these inks are compatible with most non-porous substrates commonly used in today’s narrow- web market. Above properties make this ink especially applicable as an cost effective alternative for Blackmark reverse side printing normally done in UV ink. Although formulated for films and foils, these quick drying inks also perform well on paper. Not recommended for non-top coated or thermo-eco papers.

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS
Rowat Ink film series products are set to run on conventional metering and doctor blade setups where ink volumes are 5 to 12 cm/m2 per anilox line screen counts from 140-340 l/ cm. It has been developed to work with various types of flexographic presses. This ink series offers excellent color strength and printability at press speeds up to 160 mts per minute. Testing is required to verify actual ink performance at operating speeds.
QUALITY CONTROL PARAMETERS
Viscosity: Press-ready at 30- 45 seconds #2 Zahn cup. Optimal production temperature is 18° ~ 25° C. Higher temperatures can result in premature drying in of ink on anilox and printing plate.
SHELF LIFE
Standard Ink Products 6 months
Standard Metallics 6 months
Fluorescent 3 months
Products will in most cases exceed the guaranteed shelf life, but if in any doubt, please con- tact our technical department for advice. Protect from freezing and avoid heat above 28°C.
Mix before use, as some separation may occur after prolonged storage.
Compatibility
Rowat film inks have been formulated to be compatible with as many different water-based inks as possible, to allow a smooth and cost effective change to this excellent system without wasting your current inventory. Mixing Rowat film inks with other manufacturers’ inks may reduce its resistance properties and have a detrimental effect on its printability, so be careful to check that the printed label has the resistance properties that you require.
Our specific test reports and recommendations do not constitute a guarantee of performance and do not relieve you from the obligation to test the goods for your own intents and purposes. All information is given in good faith and is correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of the last update.
Blue wool scale lightfast properties
The minimum Blue Wool Scale reading for these products is 5. This grades the inks as “permanent” and is considered sufficient for most labelling needs. BWS is a guide to resistance to the ultra violet rays under controlled conditions and should not be mistaken for outdoor weather resistance.
Water resistance
Maximum resistance will develop 24 hours after printing. Under normal conditions this will be suitable for chill cabinet application. No water-based product is waterproof. Inks will have varying degrees of water resistance, depending on their formulation.
For maximum resistance the use of the appropriate varnish is recommended.
Heat resistance
This heat resistance of this ink system is suitable for many specialist applications.
Cleaning recommendations
Rowat All Film Inks series products are fast drying to allow maximum press speeds and the quick development of resistance properties. If is therefore important not to let the ink dry on rollers, anilox or printing plate, as cleaning will be more difficult.
Adhesion
Rowat All Film Inks products will adhere to the vast majority of substrates commonly used in narrow-web converting. Because of the wide variety of top coatings and treatment levels, it is strongly recommended that printers test particular combinations before embarking on print runs.
Caution
As with most film series inks, successful overprinting with today’s variable information printers is more difficult. A range of receptive varnishes is available to allow successful overprinting.
